I’m not entirely sure why Fishing is so popular at the moment, other than it can help the war efforts, but here ya go…
- from: WoW Forums
So post your fishing schools…where you found them, I’ll update this as they come in.
Ok here are the fish “nodes” or schools. They appear as swirls in the ocean, lakes and rivers of WoW. Cast your bobber inside (or at least on the edge) of the swirl to get a better chance at catching the fish type. My preliminary reports show it’s around a 75% catch rate with various other items possible to catch in the swirls.
Other things that I have caught are the bloated mightfish (has a gem inside), stranglekelp, message in a bottle (sometimes has a green pattern/white pattern) and a few other items of random.
Sorted the list by alphabet and also by rarity. Fish, random then chests. **Started adding some coordinates.

This Patch of Elemental Water is found along the far far east coast of Azshara. Appears to be a fairly rare spawn. They give elemental water, globes of water and essences of water, that we’ve found.

Azshara
These trunks are found at the floating debris piles you’ll see spawn randomly with the swirls. Now these are not considered rare but their loots will range on the mob level of the zone. Regular boxes, Iron and Mithril are in order of zone level. I have caught a blue pattern in one of the Mithril chests. Usually they give potions, leather, cloth and a chance at a green. There is also a bloated might fish that is much like fishing used to be, as the fish usually houses a random gem.

Are you looking to get your cooking and fishing skills up? Gaming Steve posted his latest tilted “Clapperoth’s Guide to Reaching Level 300 Cooking and Fishing in a Single Day”! It is horde based but overall it is a very good guide.
The other nice benefit of this guide is that you could use the fish for the war effort. Keep an eye out for the Rainbow Fin, Yellow Spotted tail, and the Salmon (depending on which side you play). I would also highly suggest looking for a mod or two if you are going to pursue this endeavor.
I personally never got my fishing that high. Maybe around 50… I probably would have pursued it further but since I don’t have to wait for boats because I can portal around and Babba tried playing Funktea and attacked a mob with my fishing pole and broke it so it was all over after that.

O I’m in love…. Just yesterday I was wondering what patterns I didn’t have and how I could possibly track them all. In comes some good ol’ web surfing and I find this on TenTonHammer:
Tailoring Guide
The profession of Tailoring is a primary trade skill in the World of Warcraft. When choosing Tailoring as a primary skill, make sure you really want it, as you may only have two skills at once. Tailoring does not require a gathering skill so you are free to select any other primary profession that you would like.
What items do tailors produce?
Tailors produce a variety of cloth armor and goods such as bags to increase a character’s storage capacity.
Is there a complete list of Tailoring items?
YES! TenTonHammer has produced a complete list of Tailoring items that can be found here in html format.
Who uses Tailoring?
Cloth wearing classes mainly use tailoring to make their own armor. The classes that use cloth only are: Mages, Priests and Warlocks. Other classes may choose to be tailors to produce bags and other items to make a profit.
Why should I be a tailor?
You should be a tailor if you would like to make your own armor instead of buying it. You can also use tailoring to supply your friends with bags or for profit on the auction house. Many of the high level tailoring patterns (such as the mooncloth patterns) are very good for the level and can be relatively easily produced.
What other skills go well with Tailoring?
Tailoring does not require a gathering skill so you are free to select any other primary profession that you would like. Many like to pair tailoring with enchanting and this is probably the most common pairing. Be careful though as enchanting is very expensive to level, many take tailoring with it as tailoring is relatively cheap. Another common pairing is skinning or mining as it is a relatively good money making profession, you can gather resources and resell them. None of the other primary professions are a good match since they work best as pairs unless you want to spend large amounts of gold to buy the ingredients required.

Who uses First Aid?
Anyone who wants a method to heal that does not require potions, food, or mana. First Aid is a secondary trade skill, so everyone can learn it.
What are the skill caps?
Journeyman First Aid will raise your skill cap from 75 to 150. Once you gain 150 First Aid skill, you will need to purchase a First Aid book to become an Expert and raise your cap to 225. At 225, become an Artisan for a 300 skill cap.
Where do I get the First Aid books?
Alliance will need to hike to Stromgarde Keep in the Arathi Highlands. Horde will go to Brackenwall Village in Dustwallow Marsh. Bring a few gold, you will want to buy all of the First Aid books for sale there.
Where do I find the Artisan quest?
Alliance will look for the doctor in Theramore, Horde will look in Hammerfall. Make Mageweave Bandages after you finish the quest to learn the next bandage and to prevent the skill bug.
When can I learn new bandages?
Heavy Linen at 40
Wool at 80
Heavy Wool at 115
Silk at 150
Heavy Silk is from a book
Mageweave is from a book
Heavy Mageweave from the Doctor, 240.
Runecloth at 260.
Heavy Runecloth at 280.

I always forget what my phat loot is going to be when I DE something and even though I am running the Enchantrix mod, not everyone is.
Armor – Usually dust (Sometimes essence and if you are very lucky, a shard)
Weapons – Usually essence (Sometimes dust and if you are very lucky, a shard)
Blue Items – A shard
Purple Items – Multiple shards
Epic items that are level 51 and above will disenchant into a Nexus Crystal. Also items that normally disenchant into Large Brilliant Shards have a very small chance of disenchanting into a Nexus Crystal. Powerful enchanting recipes that require these Crystals can be found in the Ahn’Qiraj content.

Nope, Fishin’ ain’t for wimps. *spits to the side* It takes skill, patience, and knowin’ where to fish. I’m gonna’ clue you in to how to make Jimmy Houston look like a noob. So pull up a stool, sit right there by the fire, and don’t forget to pass the ’shine whilst I learn you ‘bout fishin’
This is a guide for the Human starting area. The Elves would have similar trainers and I will locate them where possible. Cooking can take a boost here too if you have the desire. Place color denotes PvP risk.
Goldshire – There is a tradeskill vendor by the cart in town. Buy a pole, a handful of bright baubles, and the recipes to cook the small brightfish and the Mudsnappers. Go over to the house by the lake just north-east of the Inn. There on the dock is a fishing trainer. Learn the skill, and take the fishing icon you get out of your skills book, and place it on your toolbar. That is how you cast. Bait your hook by right-clicking a bauble, and applying the glowing hand to your pole. Find a nice spot near a tree for shade, and maybe some brush in the water. Face the water, and you can even wade in if you want, and click the fishing icon, and watch your first cast. Put the cursor over the bobber and wait for a nibble. When you see the bobber bob, right click it to set the hook and see what you caught. Small Brightfish and Longjaw Mudsnappers will fill your stringer for now. Watch your skill rise. Refresh bait as needed , and fish until your skill hits 50. 20 minutes max. Go to the fishing trainer and get Journeyman fishing as long as you are level 5 or higher. Go into the Inn and cook up those Brightfish, and your cooking skill should be 25 or so. Hang on to the the Mudsanppers for later cooking Grab some more lures, and if you can afford it, get the nightcrawlers you can use now, and lets head to Westfall. Read more… »

9:00am -
WoW Insider reports that fishing is currently broken and you won’t receive any skillups for spending oodles of time drinking beer and sitting by the ol’ fishing hole.
The fish in WoW seem to be becoming more studious, as they now appear together in schools after patch 1.9. Ok, that was a bad pun, but the new update has revamped the fishing system a bit, making it easier to find pockets of sought-after fish such as Firefin Snapper & Oily Blackmouth.
Only thing is…the fish might be in schools, but you’re not learning a thing from it. That’s not a pun, I’m trying to say that fishing seems to be broken for the time being; you can still catch stuff, but you won’t gain any skill for it…at least not as of this writing.
Even so, the school system does make the whole skill a bit more rewarding; even though I love to sit back, cast a line & relax, those Blackmouth can be hard to come by sometimes. Glad to see ‘em all in one place for once…
