Log-in Issues w/ Beta

Blizzard is reporting they are aware of an login issue that popped up. Tseric from Blizzard shared this…

We have uncovered an issue in the current beta version that we are unable to resolve at this time. This issue will be fixed in the next client patch.

Players who have logged out using /quit may have difficulty moving upon re-entering the game. We have methods by which players can work around this issue:

  • When logging out with /quit, letting the exit timer run out completely will prevent the issue.
  • Relogging and letting the timer run out will also correct the matter.

Linux Got Ya Down?

Slashdot is reporting on an issue with Linux users being banned from the game due to some security matter…

“Many Cedega (formerly WINEX) users claim to have been mistakenly caught up in a security sweep of the U.S. game servers performed by Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Game Master (GM) staff. Affected users received the same strongly-worded ‘Notice of Account Closure’ email messages that true bot users did, in which they were accused of the ‘Use of Third Party Automation Software.’ While diagnosis of this event continues early speculation points to Blizzard’s use of the Warden anti-cheating spyware application that is bundled with World of Warcraft, and the odd things that may have been produced by it when it was run via Cedega. Emails to World of Warcraft’s Account Administration staff continue to go unanswered while the list of affected people continues to grow.”

Flying the Friendly Skys

Do you have to be 70 to get the basic flying mount, or only 60?

You have to be lvl 70.

I’ve been told flying mounts are now purchaseable in Beta. Is it true that getting up to 150 skill (epic land mount skill) is necessary for a flying mount?

Don’t worry about the skill needed - just like any other riding skill it’s something you buy, and start saving your gold because the fastest mount will cost 5.000 gold.

Holy Cow Gang! Better start farming in your spare time now so you can hang with the big guys.

Before the Storm Test Patch

Blizzard announces more info on the upcoming content patch…

We’re pleased to announce that our upcoming content patch, “Before the Storm,” is now available on the Public Test Realms. This patch will include an all new Honor System and brand new talents for every class. It will also be the last major content patch released before World of Warcraft’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade! Be sure to read about all of the exciting changes on our patch notes page.

PTR Update

Latest word from Blizzard…

The Public Test Realms (PTR) for the 2.0.1 patch are now live! We are currently in the process of upgrading a group of realms to a new storage solution, upgrading those realms in preparation for the expansion and overall performance improvements. While these realms are undergoing maintenance we will not be able to offer character copies to the PTRs. The realms currently down for extended maintenance are scheduled to be brought back up on November 15, at approximately 5:00 PM PST, and we expect the character copies to be available shortly after they are brought back up. Until that time you can create new characters and still test many of the new features such as the new Looking For Group system.

We’re not planning to offer premades for the 2.0.1 test. This is to help direct testing to areas, classes, and skills that people are familiar with to help ensure testing and feedback are indicative of the player’s knowledge and experience with the characters and level being played.

For more information on the PTRs please read the FAQ by clicking here.

Drysc answered a common question brought up from the new information on the new Battleground, Eye of the Storm, that will be coming with The Burning Crusade. The question is if we will be able to fly with mounts…

You won’t be able to use flying mounts while in the Eye of the Storm battleground. The restriction is mostly to keep players from using terrain that may only be reachable by flying mount to their advantage. We’re not opposed to the idea of flying mounts in a battleground, but it isn’t something we are allowing for this one.

BC: 25-man Raids

Tseric replies to a question if 25 man raid instances are going to be as consuming as the current 40 man raids….

We expect that the overall completion time of one 25-person raid dungeon will be less than the completion time for a 40-person raid.

A lot of this ’saved time’ will come from preparation and organization of the raid, not necessarily due to the difficulty or expanse of the dungeon, itself. We expect to see a reduction of time from “when we decide to start a raid” to “when we actually zone into the raid.”

Thank god! This is one of my major beefs with the game. I don’t know if it is our particular alliance group that takes so damn long to do something or if it is just across the board for everyone but I can tell you it really makes me hate the game. Especially now that I have a 2 1/2 mo old to deal with - I don’t have to sit around and wait for people to get their shit together.

Darkmoon Faire

The Darkmoon Faire is in town from November 6 - 12, 2006. Be sure to turn in your various scorpid blood, bat eyes, etc. in for tokens!
